Consumption of Resilient Orphan Crop for Products for Healthier Diets
Agrobiodiversity as a foundation for climate resilience, food security, and nutrition
OUR GOALS
Smallholder farmers are increasingly exposed to climate shocks, including droughts, floods, and soil degradation. CROPS4HD supports the transition toward climate-resilient food systems by revitalizing traditional crop diversity and strengthening local seed systems.
CROPS4HD strengthens climate resilience and food security for smallholder farmers, especially women, through sustainable use and conservation of farmers’ varieties/landraces, neglected and underutilized species respecting agroecological approaches.
PROMOTING CLIMATE-RESILIENT SYSTEMS

CROPS4HD contributes to climate adaptation and resilience through:
- Agrobiodiversity conservation: Promoting a wide range of NUS crops and varieties adapted to diverse and changing conditions
- Farmer-managed seed systems: Enabling access to locally adapted seeds and strengthening adaptive capacity
- Agroecological practices: Enhancing soil fertility, water retention, and ecosystem resilience
- Diversified livelihoods: Reducing risk by spreading production across multiple crops and markets
Together, these approaches reduce vulnerability to climate shocks while building long-term resilience of local food systems.
OUR APPROACH

Demand
Project activities make traditional crops and varieties more attractive by illustrating their nutritional benefits.

Supply
The project supports farmers in improving their cultivation techniques in order to achieve good yields.

Policy
The goal is to strengthen farmers’ seed systems and protecting farmers’ rights to propagate, exchange and sell their seeds.
