CROPS4HD will use a phone-based information and communication platform and methodology for mutual sharing of knowledge and experiences among peasants groups and link them with expert knowledge nationally and internationally.
CROPS4HD will build on experiences of SWISSAID, ETH Zurich and the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) with the Macho Sauti App, a mobile phone-based information and communication platform and methodology for mutual sharing of knowledge and experiences among peasants groups and link them with expert knowledge nationally and internationally.
Because women and men may not have equal access to mobile phones, the project will work with peasants’ groups and agents to collect some of the data of peasants with no access to mobile technology. The project will train these peasants’ groups and agents in gender and equity to ensure equal involvement of women and men. This methodology might be especially attractive also to youth farmers and might create new business opportunities and prevent rural exodus. The project will obtain permission from peasants to share their anonymized evaluation data with other peasants, seed enterprises, and other audiences.
